WEP Password Problem - Help

I'm in a hotel for the weekend. I brought the G4 iBook and the new MacBook.

The hotel has free wi-fi. Both laptops have Airport cards. Both recognise the name of the hotel wi-fi link and when I type in the WEP password requested the laptops connect. But I get a "self assigned IP address" and cannot connect to the internet.

If I turn off Airport and use my Quicky Jr USB aerial with the iBook and type in the password I connect to the hotel system and also to the internet. I am using this system now. But my wife needs to use the other MacBook tomorrow in another part of the hotel and I only have one Quicky!!

How do I get Airport to allow me to connect to the internet and not use the self-assigned IP address?

Try trashing
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

then restarting

Otherwise, I wonder if you could look on the working computer and "transplant" the server info into a manual configuration on the MacBook.

Thanks for the suggestion, but...

I turned on my laptop with the Quicky attached and saw your reply. Went in to the other laptop to try it, but it started up and connected through Airport as it did yesterday, but this time it got a proper IP address and I could connect to the internet. :)

So maybe it was "them" and not "me"....
