What do I need to achieve this?

Hello everyone,

Once in a while, I need to give short presentations in a board room. Problem is the video socket to connect the laptop to the projector is on the opposite end of the room, meaning I can't have the laptop in front of me while I talk. This is OK for presentations where all I need to do is flip through slides (I just have to use a presentation remote to control it across the room) but sometimes I need to give demonstrations on the laptop.

So my question is: is there some way that I can have the laptop in front of me, then send the video signal across the room to another device that plugs into the projector (either by wi-fi or bluetooth)?

I'm just not sure where to start. What sort of hardware is out there for this sort of thing?

Appreciate the advice :)

the hardware is called a really long cable. ;)

what if you get a second laptop and do some remote desktop foolery over airport?

I would agree with the "really long cable" idea. It would be cheaper and probably easier to set up.

As for the Remote Desktop foolery, I highly doubt that it is plausible. Besides being finicky to pull off and requiring another laptop, the program starts at USD 299.

EDIT: Quick Google search pulled up this: http://www.bonafidereviews.com/article.php?id=153

he could use any of the many free vncs out there for the dual laptop idea. i do it all the time with my computers at home.

There are many presentation remotes which allow you to control the mouse etc. remotely, including software like Salling Clicker and Romeo which work with many Bluetooth phones.
