Clicking the "Start" button to shut down your computer or dragging your CD into the Trash to eject it?

Actually it was a very hard decision for me to make since both of these things are incredibly stupid, especially for companies as megalithic as Apple and Micro$oft. I would have loved to be in on the brainstorm sessions where these decisions were made.

Maybe it's just because I've used mac's forever, but dragging a cd to the trash makes sense to me - it has always been obvious to me that if I want something gone, I put it in the trash. On the other hand, the principle behind the start menu being the menu which you need to use to shut down the computer - that's just stupid symbolism. I can't see how it helps the system be simpler or more intuitive, especially intuitive.

"Gone" is a bit too vague for me in this context. I would never think to trash a floppy to eject it. As far as I've ever known, if you drag and drop something into the trash, it's deleted. I've been on Macs for about 5 years now and I'm still not liking the trash/eject phenomenon.

Yeah, my comfort with the feature is probably just because it's always made sense to me. Rationally it is odd. But not as bad as the above!

Yeah.... Start---> Shut down is just plain oxy-moron-ish. Whereas dragging a disk to the trash is just bad symbolism. Both are stupid, but Start>Shut down is a little more stupid because it's opposites.

But in OS X if you drag your disks into Trash the Trash changes to Eject so basically it is not a mere trash for those disks! :p The same if you want to burn data on an CD or if you want to remove items from a Finder's window toolbar! PLUS you can use the Eject key to eject your CD/DVDs ;)

But the Start button in Windows is just Start button even if you do the Start > Shutdown > Restart or Start > Shutdown > Sleep :p
