What is the best 2D animation programme to use with video production projects?

It all started at 3......
Hey guys,

I am wondering what is the best application to use for creating 2D motion graphics with video?

My background is web design and I am a very competent user of Flash so 2D animation is something that I'm comfortable with, however, over the last 12 months our company has expanded into video production for online and DVD use. So, me being the designer was asked to go down a whole bunch of other routes in the design process. We recently started using 3D animation in addition to digital compositing to integrate the 3D motion graphics with video amongst other things.

Our next project is to create a presentation DVD which has been shot on video using a chroma key green screen. I've keyed out the background and now we're introducing 2D animations etc to create various effects (mainly just text effects etc) whilst the narrator is talking. Therefore I am looking for the best way to produce straightforward 2D motion graphics with video?

Originally I thought about using Flash as I'm very comfortable with this software, however, this production will not be online but will be a DVD presentation so I think that flash probably isn't the best option. I've done some animating in After Effects before, is this a good option? It has also been suggested to me that Apple's Motion or Shake might be a good option.

So I'm wondering if some of you guys may be able to give me some pointers as to the best way of creating straightforward 2D animations for a video presentation DVD?

Thank you in advance.

Ian

Thanks for responding. Do you know if AFX is easy to integrate graphics produced in it with Shake?
