What to do about my broken iPod!?

Does apple warranty cover dropping my 30GB iPod? I paid $700 for it through some charity thing, but I recently dropped it and now the hard disk makes a humming noise when spinning. I would do anything to fix this, save replacing it. Over 5,000 songs to replace? I don't think so. Please advise me as to what I can possibly do to remedy this very disgruntling situation.

And: No, there quite certainly is no warranty for DROPPING the thing. You can try and send it in for repair, but that'd cost you - and maybe they can't save the stuff that's on the harddrive, anyway... But how come you haven't got a backup of the songs on the iPod? I usually have everything on iTunes that I have on my iPod...

Your songs won't be lost unless the iPod's drive gets erased; you can still do data recovery on it with a company like Drive Savers, but hopefully it won't come to that.

Apple doesn't cover "accidents" because there's too much potential for abuse of the policy.
