What's mount_cifs?

I'm trying to get Apache on 10.4 to work with a Windows SMB share. There are some permissions glitches and I'm told that mount_smbfs is 5+ years old and deprecated in favor of mount_cifs. Does anyone know where I can find mount_cifs for 10.4? From what I've read it sounds like it was included in older versions of OSX. Was it? Is it now absent for a good reason?

Thanks,

Sorry if I'm not answering your quesion exactly. I'm not 100% on what you mean but i'll give it a try.

you wouldn't use cifs because windows uses samba to share so you would use samba to connect. Let me know if that doesn't answer your quesion

mount_smbfs is the standard Samba mounting tool in a bunch of Unix systems.

It appears that mount_cifs is DAVE's mounting tool. I haven't looked into it enough to see if the latest DAVE still has it.
