whats the IPOD upgrade for?

i checked the software upgrades online and i downloaded the latest softwqare upgrade for the Ipod. Of course i downloaded it, but a question stuck to my head....what was that upgrade for? hehehe.

im using an ipod 15gig and the software description said it the upgrade wont be effective on dock connectors. but even if i patch it directly to the ibook, nothing seems to be happening (or at least to my observation). maybe some nice guru would want to enlighten me.

Software update usually tells you what the upgrade does.

Version 2.1 adds the following:
Voice notes (requires 3rd party microphone, sold separately)
Digital photo storage (requires 3rd party photo card reader, sold separately)
Enhanced On-The-Go playlist
Improved playback performance
Added Music Quiz game
Improved backlight
Improved battery meter
New for Windows: support for AAC audio files, including songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store
