What's up with Services

Don't Tread on Me!
How can I get the services to work,ie;
DiskCopy
File Merge
etc..
That are located under the menubar?

Thanks,
SA:)

I thought all of the native apps installed by OSX were cocoa?

I get Highlighted service directories out of the menubar (I do not know if directory is the correct term) but none of the services are highlighted for use under any OSX app.

Do I have something turned off?
I have no clue. I downloaded and installed the google lookup service and it does not work under any OSX app either although it is now under the menubar services. I wonder if I have something turned off that is preventing me from using these services. Maybe I'll try to log in as root and see if they work. Hmmm...

I'll let you know if the root login works also.

Thanks,:)

Most of the services require you to select text or a file. I imagine the Google service does as well. Try highlighting a word in a web browser(try omniweb instead of IE), and then go to the services menu. The google service should no longer be greyed out.

LOL! IE is Carbon, hell, even the Finder is Carbon!
As of 10.1, the Carbon api's were rewritten so that Carbon apps can make use of Services, but the apps have to be rewritten in order to do so.
BTW, Office v.X is also Carbon, even though it won't run under OS 9. Here again, the ability to run in both 9 and X exists for Carbon apps, but it isn't a necessity.

You know, Carbon isn't inferior to Cocoa. They're both about equal, except that I can dig up my OS 8 program, make some minimal changes, and poof, instant Carbonized OS X software.

If you want to see a service work, highlight some text and select "Make Sticky." I don't know if it's supposed to work on Cocoa programs only or not, but as far as I can tell, it works just about everywhere.
