If I were to just copy the OS 9 system folder from one Mac to another one that has OS X so it use OS 9 software, where do I put the OS 9 system folder in OS X? Will this work for what I want it to do?

Generally Apple just puts it on the root level of the hard drive... but there isn't a limit or set spot. I put my Mac OS 9 system folder in a folder called Mac OS 9 in my Applications folder.

And yes, if you need Mac OS 9 for Classic, then moving it over will work. You just need to point Classic (via the Classic Preference) at the system folder once moved to your hard drive. the first time it goes to run it'll add any software it needs to the system folder and you should be ready to go after that.

Cool. Thanks. How do I point Classic at the system folder via Classic Preference? Where is Classic Preference?

if I want to install OS9 from CD, do I have to create the OS9 folder first or will the installation process do that?

In system preferences under system

You have a PB that doesn't support installation of OS 9, gphillipk (what a name!). You have to install Classic by using the installation media that came with your computer. It's on 'additional software' or something. (I guess it's just the normal installation and retore DVD.)
