Which AGP card?

I'm looking to upgrade the graphics card in my Sawtooth 350 and was looking for some advice. There are loads of cheap cards on eBay but I was wondering if there are issues with using them in a PowerMac i.e. will a Radeon or GeForce card not made by Nvidia or ATI work? I know the Mac and PC cards use the same chipsets but does the brand of card matter, if its some random company then it will probably be built specifically for windows. And obviously I'd need a card that would be AGP x2 compatible.

I found a cheap ATi Radeon Mac Edition (AGP, 32 MB DDR)_but I think its fairly old and I'd like to get something thats as fast as possible for a x2...that doesn't cost too much!

I had been thinking about getting a PowerBook 12" but I can't afford it so I think I'll upgrade my 350 for now to last me another 6 months or whatever. I've already bumped up the RAM and HD (see signature) but there are finally some resonably cheap G4 upgrades out. The other thing I was thinking about was getting a Giga Designs card (maybe the 800 MHz w/L3). Any experience of them?

Sorry I'm rambling a bit. Anyway, some advice would be very much appreciated.

Cheers,
Craig

I am sure you know that Nvidia is expensive. Check out the ATI Radeon 9000. The latest has 64 MB cost $150. est.

Yes, the 9000 is a great card - the 8500 is supposed to be a little better and is about the same price, but I tried both in the same machine and did not notice a difference (though I didn't do any kind of bench marking).

the 9000 has a adc port, the 8500 does not. so if you have an apple monitor you should go with the 9000, i have one and its a great card

Actually he has a G4/350 which does not have ADC support. So if he puchases the 9000 he will not be able to use the ADC port, he'll be left with only a DVI port.

Doesn't matte anyway, I've got a CRT monitor! I ended up getting a cheap Radeon or 30 squid, its only 32mb but it runs Jedi Knight II and Medal of Honor pretty well. I thought about an 8500 but they're still about £130. I also got the Giga Designs 800MHz card with a level 3 cache. That and the fact I don't have a Rage128 anymore has helped sooo much. I did some benchmarking and my machine's at least twice as fast as it was, especially on altivec. So I'm a happy bunny. Thanks guys.

you have to Buy A MAC video card... To play jedi knight 2 I would recomend no less than a Geforce 3ti 200 or Radeon 8500.... Anything lower, and it will be choppy even at low res...
