Which cable routers work with iMac?

Please can somebody tell me of a cable router that's known to work with Macs?
Most routers' setup instructions are strictly Windows-oriented.
I bought a LinkSys router and after several e-mail exchanges with their tech support, and many hours wasted in experimentation, concluded it had no mac-compatible setup process known to mankind. Bright spot: retailer Staples gave me a full refund.
I have a new iMac with OS 10.4.4, and an old iMac with OS 9.2.2, and would like them to share my DSL and/or printer(s). Either iMac works fine on its own but continual plugging and unplugging of delicate little ethernet plugs doesn't seem a good idea.
Will be grateful for any recommendations. Thanks, Felix

Most any router, Links included, will work fine. You use a browser for the setup, independent of the OS Platform.

I've had a links, currently use a Netgear wireless 4 port router.

Your router should "just work" out of the box. Make sure that TCP/IP has Configure IPv4: set to Using DHCP. Make sure that this is working first. If you want something a bit more custom, you will know that the problem is your settings and not your hardware or OS.
