Which is the best system optimizer (and are they really necessary?)

Hiya,

Just want a few peoples opinions on the best system optimizers out there.

Just checking Versiontracker I can see Maintain1, Cocktail, XOptimize, Tinkertool, system optimizer, MOX Optimze to name a few.

Which one is the 'best' as I've heard that some can mess up your HD, and are they really necessary for a Jaguar user who leaves his mac on 24/7.

Thanks

PowerPC G3

256Mb RAM
40Gb HD
OSX 10.2.4

well, these don't all do the same things exactly. the best thing is to check themout for yourself. so far i use Maintain the most of any of these. the question of whether you need to run the cron's manually has a lot to do with how much of a power user you are and your setup. someone like myself who is a heavy user on a daily basis with limited space on my 10gb boot disk can see the improvement by running them more regularly than the automatic system processes. on the other hand, my lady who barely has 10 gb worth of stuff on her 40 gb drive and uses it only lightly would rarely see the difference.

I know some software called Xupport, which was advertised in the ADC newsletter, and it does brilliant optimizing.
