Hey, I'm a PC user who wants to switch, I'm trying to find the right Macintosh for me, so could I get some help here? Mainly, I plan to do word processing, but I want something that could do 3d, because that's important to me. I'm not planning to run the LATEST games, in fact I'm probably going to run very non-freeware games. I'm really interested in the G4 tower, but I have no idea what to get. I need a computer that'll last me a while, you know, fairly upgradable. I bought myself an 80 Mhz 7100 PowerPC for 5 BUCKS!!! I really want to continue in this Macintosh trend. I'm sick of Windows, I'm sick of corruption, I'm sick of ALL OF IT. I hate having a registry, DLLs, INIs, INFs and all that crap that doesn't make any sense to me. I want something that I can upgrade that won't become obsolite for at least 2-3 years. I don't have to have the GREATEST thing, in fact, I'm trying to avoid spending as much money as possible:D. So, can I get some wisdom as a wanna-be switcher?;)

I would go with either the g4 iMac or a Power Mac. if you ant upgradability and more power, get the Power mac, if you want "coolness" and a cheaper system, get an iMac or eMac. but since you want it to last you a while, I'd say one of the new Power Macs

funny how no one likes the pb g4 ti anymore. hopefully they'll make an update with a superdrive.....oooooohhhhhh......slot loading superdrive 1 in. thick. very shagadelic

If you ever want to upgrade the system beyond a larger HD or more RAM, get a PowerMac. For example: If as you say you want to try your hand at 3D, you will likely want to upgrade your video card from time to time.

I switched from the world of windows for a flat screen iMac. I love it. I have also run Maya on it and it was fine (upgrade the ram though). It is not really upgrade able, but it is a sweet piece of meat.... :)
