who games on their ibook 900 G3?

No it won't run on it.

Definitely not with just 128 MB of ram. UT2004 takes about 512 as a minimum. And video card wise, anything less than a Radeon 9200 is really not practical.

I can second Viro. But there are many really nice freeware games that will run just fine on the ibook. If it's just about killing some time while a long trip, they will be the perfect choice. We had a thread on such kind of games. Check out search.

The 128MB RAM is being upgraded this week no doubt. One week on 128MB of RAM is enough to drive one insane.

Yes, I think running OS X with only 128 MB is definitely enough to drive anyone insane. 256 MB is not really enough. 384 MB is about the bare minimum. Anything more is really nice to have and I'd get more if I had the $$$.

But even with loads of RAM, your gaming choices would be rather limited with a iBook G3. A Powermac would be more suited for games.

I'm just interested in something to pass the time. Dare I say it, but Visual Boy Advance emulator should be sufficient for me.

Age of Empires II, 4x4 Evolution II, Tropico, Warcraft 3 (Frozen Throne, Reign of Chaos), Caesar III, Civilization III, and America's Army 2 run just fine on mine. Not the greatest games, but then again it's not a gaming computer...if I wanted games I'd buy a PS2.

Running OS X with anything under 256mb of ram is akin to trying to tow a 10K pound boat with a Geo Metro...it'll move it (budge might be a better word than move), but you won't get anywhere fast and you're bound to screw something up sooner than later. I personally wouldn't use anything less than 512mb (laptop or desktop, g3 thru g5) for general use. The more you have the better.
