In early July, Apple applied for a trademark for Junkyard. Rumors circulating suggest Junkyard may be the name of a hardware recycling initiative handled by a third-party company. According to one tip, Junkyard won't have anything do with old hardware: it's simply a feature in the next major revision of OS X, codenamed Pinot.
Purportedly, Junkyard is "Apple's version of a simple file recovery utility" that is similar in many respects to Norton Utilities' UnErase.
"With Junkyard enabled, all items emptied from the trash will be recoverable via the Junkyard application," claims the tipster.
Pinot Ñ and consequently Junkyard Ñ is expected to be announced at Macworld San Francisco (MWSF) in January 2003. Update 1am: Due to conflicting reports, availability is being further investigated.

Junkyard is said to already be in final stages of development.
Although further Pinot information is scarce, it is expected that it will be the first revision to fully embrace Apple's .Mac initiative and, according to eWeek, its release may correspond with Apple's long-debated decision to prevent the booting of OS 9 on future Macs.
"A tweak to new models in its Macintosh line of desktop and portable computers will prevent booting into Mac OS 9... leaving the Unix-based Mac OS X as the sole operating system," says eWeek."
