Why choose mac instead of pc?

I really need your help on this one!!

My employer is thinking about moving from mac to pc and I have to stop this. I'm looking for arguments on "why mac, not pc" question. I've looked the other thread about this, but I would like to get your opinions about professional usage. We mostly use macs for music.

Thanks in advance!!

Lower Total Cost of Ownership. Less need for IT support personell. Better integration between hardware and software.

As a creative company, im surprised your boss is even thinking about this. I suggest you goto a local apple store, or give them a ring and ask for some material to help sway your boss. I'm sure they'd love the business.

for the professional field there is no supercomputer that could beat the xserve macs in price and performance. I am working in the field of bioinformatics and our next cluster will be a xserve cluster. As for client systems there is no really convincing argument to go mac beside working with macosx and thus having a great interface to unix based machines, windows and of course macs. As for mobile computers: definitely mac! I haven't seen any pc laptop that could compete to the powerbooks/ibooks.
As Pengu said: for the professional field it is very surprising one even thinks about mac or pc.

I agree with the cost considerations of pcs. With all the virus attacks and software problems of pcs, not to mention the learning curve of stepping back in time when you get on a pc machine (ugh, why do I have to go through 8 menus just to get to the freakin calculator!!!), it's a mystery why your boss would want to jeopardize his productivity.

When you add it all up, he's going to have to hire a system admin or IT guy to manage the pc network, whereas he can just have you and OS X and have nearly trouble free network operation. Is he prepared to pay an extra 40-60K per year to hire this person for his beloved pcs? I don't think so. :)

What an outrage. How did this guy get to be your boss with such lack of sanity?

Music World reasons to go Mac:

1. Audio Units--best processing technology available (though not most available yet)
2. Latency--OS X, lowest MIDI/audio latency of any OS available
3. Full availability of all the high end music apps, all super stable and zippy (though the high end PCs can really crank through files, but so can the G5s).
4. Integration with Mac apps like Final Cut via OMF in/out.
5. Built-in digital i/o on G5s

#1 Piece of mind. (I spend more time maintaining Windows, more time using my Mac - even with it's annoyances.)

Tell him to get ready to hire employees to fight the losing battle against the swarm of Windows viruses, attacks, spyware, etc. Plus toss in the expense of hardware, software licenses, security measures, user training and the loss of production while everyone gets used to the new environment.

If they already made the investment in Apple and the necessary software, unless there's a really good reason, it would be a huge waste of money and effort.

Maybe he does have a good reason to switch though?

A good one - but if you email it to your boss, be sure to spell it "peace" of mind. :D

Otherwise, he may give you a piece of HIS mind...

:) Good for nothing spell check, it should know what I meant to say!
