I am currently running Mac OS X 10.4.2 on a dual 1.4ghz PowerMac G4, but have had this problem since 10.39.
Internet Connect usually takes over a minute to pick up the Apple internal modem and dial out. Sometimes it never picks up the modem (at which time I get a dialog saying that there is no carrier) and at other times it picks up the modem and dials as soon as I select "connect".
Any ideas why Internet Connect behaves like this? I have gone over my configuration many times, and have closely watched the Activity Monitor and POP for any clues.
My experience level with Mac OS X is minimal. However, I have many years of experience with Solaris.
Thank you,
