Why is my G4 Locking up??

Fahrvergnuugen

I am the law!
My OSX installation is less than two weeks old.
Once in a while, it will lock up. The mouse is alive but everything else is frozen. Apache still serves pages [I can also ping it], but I cannot ftp, telnet or ssh in.

This is incredibly annoying.
List of aps running during last lockup:
Finder
SNAX
Mail.app
Omniweb [I think triggered the crash....it was locking up and i tried to force quit it. Everything froze when I clicked the force quit button]
Internet Explorer
iTunes
Sherlock
Terminal.app
System Prefs
BBedit
Launch Bar
Son of weather grok
System Monitor
Sputnix
XNap [java ap]
Preview
Word

Classic was not running. I have a dual 500MHz G4 with 1.2gb of ram 3 hard disks and a firewire CDR.

Anybody else out there have OSX freeze like this?

BTW, when I try and ftp or telnet in from my linux box, they both say "connected" but it hangs after that.

telnet 192.168.0.100
Trying 192.168.0.100...
Connected to 192.168.0.100.
Escape character is '^]'.
never gets past this.

Thanks for the info.
I'm betting that its a RAM problem. The only time my system seems to have these convulsions is when the "Free Ram" is under 100mb. [Most of it being inactive]. Two of the chips are cheap no name modules.

I guess unless it gets really bad, I'll just live with it. I plan to get rid of this computer just before MWNY since I will be upgrading to whatever comes out.

Thanks again.
