Why won't it boot from the CD?

I have a 9600/300 and I need to install an OS on it and only one of my OS 9.1 CD's will boot but then I get an error trying to intstall please reply?

At a guess, you might need a firmware update.

Would need more information, first...

Can I update the firmware by booting from a CD, if so where can I get that firmware update?

There may be a firmware updater on the cd, I can't remember off hand.

Have a good look through this list and see if your mac is in there.

It's always a good idea to update your firmware, but it could well be something else that's acting up...

What OS CD are you using? You can not use a CD that is for another machine. If that 9.1 CD has a model number stamped on it, you can only use it for that model.

What exactly does the error message say? How much memory do you have installed? Did you run Disk First Aide first on the drive? Did you update drivers before trying to install? Updating drivers is important. This can be done from Drive Setup - just go to the menu and select update drivers, do not click on erase.
