Will computer prices increase when Leopard is released?

Hello All,

I bought my first mac about a year ago (12" G4 powerbook) so I'm not sure how things usually go.

I want to upgrade but want to wait for Leoprd to be released.

So, when a major OS release occurs (Panther, Tiger Leopard etc). Does the price of buying a computer normally go up too?

Many thanks

I don't think so, since (at least how I remember) the iBooks cost the same in Panther and Tiger... maybe 100 bucks more, but thats about it.

If anything the price of computers has been going steadily downward. New op systems don't determine the price of a computer--its components do, though. Since apple switched to intel processors you'll gradually see the price become more and more competitive with pcs.

They've never raised the prices like that before.

Apple usually offers free upgrades to anyone who buys a new computer (at normal prices) within a month or so of a major release. They're probably give details on that when they announce the final release date.

There's no reason for the computer prices to change when the OS becomes a new version. Never happened, never will. But if you buy before Leopard's released, you might want to buy Leopard later, which'll cost 129 USD, so waiting for it to be released might be well worth something.

Thanks for that everyone. I think I'll wait 'til the Macworld expo at least. I got burned last year when I bought my Powerbook in December. Being new to the mac I didn't know that in January was when all the cool new stuff comes out and in February Powerbooks dropped in price!

I will live in hope that Leopard will be released at Macworld (I can dream can't I) and I can get my new machine in January.

Ah, well, you can't really win buying computers.. if you buy it brand-new, it may have problems, late, and you're out of date..
