Wireless internet slow after printer install

Hi, I'm new. I'm not a current mac user myself... when I was a kid I was a System 7 user but I switched to PCs after that for various reasons. But anyway, my dad's a mac user and I'm his IT guy, without knowing how to help most of the time. He's had a Macbook Pro for a few months, OS 10.4.9. Uses wireless internet at home.

Today he installed an old HP Deskjet 3650 we had lying around. Downloaded the OSX driver from hp.com, installed it. It worked. The printer works fine. But now the internet doesn't. It's slowed down to the point that most sites just give a server error (a few, like Google, have merely slowed down).

Airport says it's getting good connectivity. And I don't see what installing a printer could have to do with it. Any similar experiences? Thanks!

*edit* The printer is connected by USB cable; at no point have we tried to share the printer or print through AirPort.

In general, my advice is to deinstall the printer and check if the performance is back to what is was. If not, maybe it is a coincidence, if so, most likely the drivere is causing the problems (which should not be possible).

Good luck, Kees
