Wireless network... Hide it?

Is there a way to hide a wireless network from other casual wonderers? For instance... I have a pocket pc that can scan for wireless networks, it says that it should see all the networks, (although may not be able to connect to them because of WEP, WPA, etc.) Is there a way for Airport and wireless devices to completely hide their wireless network?

why would you hide it?
just make sure your home network is secure enough, and open-up the wireless network to your neighbourhood.

Make your neighbours happy!

if you setup a WEP encryption on your base-station or router, other comps or devices that do not know the key won't see the wireless network.

even if you setup WEP, they will still see your WLAN..but just won't be able to access it. There is no way i know of of "cloaking" your WEP. Unless maybe you surrounded your house with thick aluminum...like a giant TiBook or something.

I don't think this is right, Konfuzion. I had a couple of ppl here with their wireless laptops (mostly peecees) who did not even get any signal. After adjusting the WEP-key they found the signal.

The best you can do is not have the base station report the SSID (AP name.) I do this with mine. Thus, you cannot see the network name in the Airport pull down menu. You have to enter it manually by selecting Other. This is trivial to get around with a good sniffer, though. It'll sit and watch traffic, and eventually get the name of the network, possibly from someone else joining the network.
