I would like to know how to turn my wireless becon off. I have an eMac with an Airport extreme card and an iBook with Airport origanal. I use my eMac to create an ad-hoc wireless session and I dont want to have any else joining in. I have been told that if I turn the beacon, a constant announcement of the network, off nobody will ba able to see it unless they know the name and password and tell their machine to look for it.

I believe if you go to System Preferences-->Network and check the settings for the Airport card in the eMac you can disable the broadcasting of the SSID (the ID of the wireless connection that you've made available on the eMac).

There's a checkbox for "Create a private network" or something similar (I don't have an english version). Tick that box, and you network should stop broadcasting its name.
