Wireless peer-to-peer networking

Our school has 10 iBook G4s which we would like to put into a wireless peer-to-peer network. We do NOT need or want internet access; we only want to be able to use networked versions of reading and typing software. Will we need a base station or wireless router, or can we simply designate one of the machines as the "server" and put the client applications on the others? I'm primarily a PC user, so I'm not familiar with Mac setups. Thanks.

You can designate one of the machines to act as a base station. In the Airport menu, choose "Create Network". The other iBooks should then be able to see the network you created in their Airport menu. You don't need to install any extra software to get a basic, impromptu network going.
