I recently purchased a Canon ImageClass MF4570dw multifunction wireless device. I have set it up so it recognizes my wireless network (run off a Mediabridge router). I have several Macs on the network, running either 10.4.11, 10.6.8 or 10.5.xx.
Problem: The printer will find the network, but after a minute or so drops the connection, and after another minute or so will reconnect. The printer also has an energy saver mode (like the sleep mode on a Mac) . . . you can press a button on the printer to put it to sleep or it will automatically go into sleep mode after 10 minutes. For some reason when it is in sleep mode, it only remains that way for a minute or two, then comes back on. Then it starts searching again for the wireless connection, eventually rejoining it.
Canon suggested the wireless card in the printer was going bad and sent a replacement unit, but the problem persists. I've reset the printer to a static IP address, turned off DHCP, changed the security settings on the router, and switched the router to the same channel that the printer appears to be on.
The printer is getting a wireless signal (two bars), regardless if it is next to my desktop or moved a few feet away from the router. Still drops the connection and won't stay in sleep mode.
The computers on the network aren't a problem; I'm also using VoiP on my phone(s) which are near the printer but can't imagine that would cause any problem. There is no phone line connected to the multifunction device.
I've been back and forth with Canon on this but haven't come up with a solution. To summarize the problems:
-- The printer can't hold a WiFi signal for very long; it drops and then eventually reconnects. How can I get it to remain on.
-- The energy saver (sleep) mode doesn't stay on, obviously something is waking it up. How do I get it to remain on energy saver when not printing/scanning etc.
Thanks for any advice/suggestions you can offer. I'm stumped.
