Hi,
I've got a 17" PowerBook G4 1.33 Mhz laptop running OSX 10.4.x that won't boot up. I had just installed an Avid program. The installation seemed successful, but when it went to restart, all I get is the gray startup screen with the apple in the middle. NOTHING ELSE. I tried zapping the P-RAM, but I get the same problem. If this doesn't boot up, am I screwed? Any ideas?
PLEASE HELP!
Adam

I'm having a similar problem with my 15". I have a 3 year old MacBook, and after downloading the most recent security update (about a week ago now), I haven't been able to start up since.

When I hit the power button, I get the chime, I get the apple, and then all i get is the spinning icon. It won't start up from a CD (but then again, I'm not sure this is the right cd), and nothing I've tried so far works. Any options or suggestions are welcome! Please, walk me through it!

Thanks,
joe

Sounds like both of you have bad Hard drives. You boot to your install DVDs by inserting the DVD at startup and holding the option key. This will bring you to the boot manager where you will see one or two icons. One icon will be the install DVD, the other icon may or may not be your hard drive. Select the install DVD. The 1st thing that will come up is choose your language. After that a tool bar will appear across to top of the screen. When you see the menu choose utilities. Once in utilities, choose disk utility. When disk utility opens look in the left pane for your hard drive. IF it is there click on it then under the disk first aid tap select repair disk. If you do not see your HD listed or it fails disk first aid, its more than likely a bad hard drive.
