What have people heard about this game,
http://www.blizzard.com/wow/
i was really interested in SW Galaxies and this seems like it would be similar, albeit in the Warcraft World. Would this be a good first MMORPG for me? I love WC2 and WC3 but have never played a MMORPG.

For your first MMORPG, yeah it'd be a good choice because it's in familiar territory for you, the Warcraft world. Have you seen in-game movies and the promotional movies? Delicious!

I believe the combat system as it stands right now, is you wander around and then engage in battles, kinda like Final Fantasy, the combat is not buttom smashing or mouse click frenzy like Diablo though. But since they're still developing it, they might change their mind and redesign the whole combat system again.

i hope that doesnt happen, but you are right it does look like a visually stunning game

i was afraid of that, the system req's do look a bit steep, but it should be awesome

It depends, if the intro movie is prerendered it'll just be like playing back a movie file. But the main menu screen in WC3 is indeed real time 3D. Having a good video card is what really matters here. PowerMacs are in a good position because the user can upgrade the video card whereas eMacs and iMacs can't, same goes for laptops.

thats true i just sometimes cant justify spending that much money on a video card for one or two games

But that same video card will also boost performance in EVERYTHING else you do in OSX. Remember our friend Quartz Extreme? Yep, it likes more video RAM, and some video horse power would let me use the Genie effect whereas I can't now without being annoyed by the sluggish drawing speed.

Androo, what do you expect? Most MMORPG's are subscription-based. Some are even free initially, as in you pay nothing to download but you pay to play.

nb, a really good graphics card will help out with all the visuals in your system, including any games you might want to play. It'll even increase the rate of seeing the User Switching cube effect in Panther.

Anybody know of a way I can squeeze more performance out of my iMac graphic-wise? I know I'll never be able to run WC3 on it, but I'd like to improve Unreal Tournament. (400 Mhz G3, 640 MB RAM, 8 MB VRAM)

i added a card to my rev. A iMac, but that had a mezzanine port, not really sure of what you could do to an iMac DV

Um, nothing legal, per se.

I played WC3 at Nexus for the first time tonight, and it was so much fun! I can't believe on what I've been missing since it came out. It makes Starcraft look so, well, old!
