x11.app - Issue with download...

Hi guys. My first post here. I've been a Mac user for a few years now, and really love the apps on the Mac, and 99% of the time, never need anything thats on Windows. However, the time has come that I need to open a windows app via Darwin. Its asking me to install x11.app - which I've tried to do, but when I download it, it says there is already a newer version installed. I've never heard of, let alone installed x11.app before, so this confused me a little.

I've come onto these forums, and had a little search, to which I found out that you need to do something with the original OS disks to install x11.app via the install disk. I no longer have the install disks :( - I moved house 6 months ago, and had 3 boxes lost in transit, (Including my PS3, nearly 50 games a DVD player and all CD's / DVD's :( ) - and have never recovered them.

Is there any other way I can get this app to install?

Thanks for any help.

I may be wrong but can't you get it with the xcode tools? In which case you could probably get it via a free ADC online membership.

PS - are you the CopyWrite developer then?

Cheers MisterMe - I've ordered them today, but could take a while to get here.

ora - I'm not a developer, no :) - Why is there a famous "CopyWrite" who develops? Perhaps I'll stop using this name, to avoid confusion.

Nope, its a pretty decent Mac writing package. Have a look here - I used to use it though these days I prefer Scrivener.

To be honest I can't remember. If you sign up you can download the xcode tools (this I have done before) which may contain the x11.app. I was hoping one of the others here coudl confirm or deny.

X11 is not included with Xcode because it is not a developer tool. You may download the X11 SDK, but that download does not include X11. X11 ships either with your new computer or with certain older versions of MacOS X. There is also a non-Apple version available for download. For most users, however, there is no new version available for download from Apple.
