Hello.
I was happily running VPC 7 with XP Pro and a Keyspan USB to Serial adapter (PN USA-19HS), on a G4 PowerBook with 1 GB SDRAM running Jaguar. Everything was working/communicating fine thru the USB to the serial and also thru Airport to the Mac and PC network.
Then I updated the Mac to Tiger 10.4.3. When I tried running VPC7, I received error messages about incorrectly set file permissions (I read postings about, rand disk utility to repair permissions and I dont have those messages anymore). But I couldnt see the network and the USB serial converter wasnt working properly.
I then updated to VPC7.0.2 and installed Keyspans latest installer for PN USA-19HS thinking that would fix the network and USB to serial connection problems, but it didnt.
I have VPC 7.02 network set to "Shared Networking" and have set the Virtual Switch Prefs to "Built-in Ethernet" (have tried the "Default" and "PCI Ethernet Slot B" with no positive results).
I read on another posting that I might have to reinstall VPC7 from scratch (which scares me-Im not a VPC or XP guru).
I have copied the disk image to an external backup drive (following a postings instructions).
My concerns are:
- How do I reinstall VPC7 then update it 7.0.2 without stepping on XP Pro and the PC data? Is there a "Restore in place" option like my beloved Mac OS offers?
- Once reinstalled, how do I copy over the PC data without stepping on it or replacing any good files with bad VPC files?
- Should I try reinstalling XP Pro? (not looking forward to that). Any chance of restoring in place with XP? How do I copy over the data/programs that are not part of the XP OS so that I dont have to manually reinstall them all?
(Any way of incrementally trying the easy way(s) first to see if they work and stepping up the "reinstall" ladder?)
Im not very confident with my ability to perform software reinstalls and want to make sure I completely understand what I have to do before I try doing it.
Thanks very much for your help in advance,
Conner
