i have a dual g4 1ghz xserve (not slot loading cd)
i need to know if raid is software or hardware on that machine.

do u know it?
thanks.

I think 3mors just wants to know, if there is a raid controler in there. Is it possible to open the xserve?

xserve not xserve raid.
i've already created a raid 0 partition on the machine.
i want only to know if it's been created via hardware or software.
i can't find any specifications on the net.
i know that hardware raid is optional on xserve g5 and i don't know if there's on my machine.

exactly, Zammy-Sam

sorry for my explanation.
yes i can open the machine.
Then have a look inside. You should first of all have at least 2 discs. See if there is any chip around those ide or scsi plugs or if they are plugged in some pci card.
But now that I am thinking of it:
Apple does not provide any pci-card controler for xserves. In powermacs there are mostly pci raid-controler. So, if it's raid, they should use onboard feature in the xserve and since you said you have a xserve and not a xserve raid, I would agree to macmasta: almost 99% sure it's software raid.
