Any ideas would help me out a lot.

I am using IE 5.2.2 and trying ot access yahoo chat. it gives me a bunch of problems (it is java crap) but at home on my moms imac it works just fine. I cna't figure it out. I tried to trash some prefs but with X i have no idea what i am supposed to get rid of so i can start out fresh. I accidently got rid of my bookmarks i guess.

Please help!

Try copying the link from IE and pasting it into the java launcher utility in Applications/Utilities. If it works in the java launcher, then there is something wrong with IE's Java support.

As I understand it, Microsoft have a poor history when it comes to supporting Java, as it competes with their own .Net technology.

THanks a lot for the link to the app! works great!

I don't know why it won't work in IE. It also doesn't work in Safari, or navigator, or classic versions of ie or netscape! Works on my moms imac though! Weird but anyway I'm using this program its way better! thanks again!

np. I found that a lot of mac browsers wouldnt load the java applet used by Yahell, with OmniWeb being the best recently, and way back then, Netscape Communicator 4.7 seemed the best. i think, like a lot of sites using Java, it's designed/written for/on windows. There is a web download system thing on some sites that uses a java applet. it WILL NOT work on anything that doesn't have the microsoft jvm.

Unfortunately, the idea of java was good, but microsoft, high memory requirements and a naturally clunky interface have made people (including me (im learning java at tafe)) wary of java apps. Bleh.

Grab Chit Chat from versiontracker.com or Macupdate.com. It's the only Mac Yahoo chat client which gets all the room lists.

Charla used to be the best when it worked and was maintained, but it has fallen into disrepair and is no longer actively developed.
