1. Apple will continue to build $699 CRT iMacs for the education and business markets. Actually there is a second higher priced model as well.
2. AMD consistantly shows that clock speed comparisons are BS. As anyone who looked at SPARC or even Itanium knows.
3. I ran comparisons at the Apple, Dell, Elite and Compaq web sites on the 800 MHz and the tricked out Dual 1 Ghz Macs vs what is considered [among neutral observers] the equivalent P4 and Athlon. That is: G4 800 ~= P4 1.8 GHz & Athlon 1.4 GHz; G4 1 GHz DP ~= P4 2.2 GHz & Athlon 1.47 GHz Dual processor.
Results: 800 MHz Mac is $900 less than Dell and $100 more than Compaq [Athlon]
1 GHz DP Mac is $2100 less than Dell and $100-500 more than Elite dual Athlons.
The biggest bang for buck was the Elite with the 266 MHz DDR AMD north bridge and Linux. But Apple beat the big boys when compared feature for feature."
