The Mini-hub had been working fine with OS X for over two years before any problems developed, so I don't know if that's it, but I'll certainly take Satcomer's advice and avoid LaCie drives in the future.

Limster, I tried the firewire port without any success. I appreciate your advice -- re getting a different case, but I'm no tech wiz, so wouldn't even know where to start on that. Fingers crossed the data retrieval service works out.

Thanks for the advice, Star-affinity, but I'm no good on the "tech" side, so I won't be attempting to open anything with regards to the HD. What I have done was contact Lacie to see if they could assist, they couldn't but recommended a few contacts who may be able to retrieve my data for me...

Satcomer, Sorry to report that your idea didn't work. I reset the PRAM a couple of times, making sure everything was off/unplugged etc, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. The HD is not showing up at all on the disk utility. Can you suggest anything else, please?
