    12" Powerbooks drop $200

100 MBs is not big. That other guy was talking about it taking long to copy GIGAbyte files over airport--that's 10 times your 100 MB file. 100 MBs won't take very long--whether via Airport, AE, or ethernet. So relax--get what works best for you.

    dammit! I killed terminal!

Same thing just happened to me. Nothing to do with typos. You probably copied over /usr/share/init/tcsh/aliases to ~/Library/init/tcsh/aliases.mine and then tried opening a new terminal window like I did before deleting the entire file and adding the ResExcellence lines. Just delete that file...

Terminal app quit working [Process completed]

I just suffered the same problem. Deleted the init folder like you said and sure enough, that fixed my problem. However, I still wanted to use customized aliases file (and I do at work so I knew it was possible) so I quickly figured out that it was the aliases file that ResExcellence has you...

    SSH issues on 10.1

After quite a bit of searching, i found the answer on Apple's own discussion boards--not a bad resource! Somebody had already figured out what was going on. He wrote: "Following up: My problem was caused by having two different ssh versions installed simultaneously... one in...

    SSH issues on 10.1

I'm also getting an error when trying to SSH after installing the 10.1 update. It reads: OpenSSL version mismatch. Built against 90581f, you have 90602f Not sure what to do to fix it. Yes, I installed a version different than what Apple had because on X's first iteration, there was no...

    pointer dissapears in classic apps

I haven't found an actual "fix" but from experiencing the same problem I've figured out that if you activate the classic app you're wanting to switch to by clicking on its icon in the dock, your cursor will almost always be visible. (For me, the cursor disappears when I click on a classic app...

    Puma PHP Install -how-???

Actually, to me it looks like you possibly did not configure Apache to recognize and process .php files. go to your httpd.conf file and make sure you have UNcommented lines like: AddType application/x-httpd-php .php3 AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps and AddType...

A Few Changes Around Here... News Update!

Giving it a quick look over, I didn't notice much of a change to the design (other than the elimination of the side-bar) EXCEPT the color! And what a bright and gaudy color scheme it is. I fear that with this brightness it will be ever harder to read and post during my work hours... anybody...

If you want 10.1 spoiled for you, read this!

1 - Downloading an unreleased leaked build DOES degrade the Mac experience. Just search these message boards and you'll find NUMEROUS posts of people complaining about these same unreleased leaked builds and how they don't work as they'd like, or that they don't include a certain feature that...

    Airport and gNAT

Gotcha... the article I linked to in the above post provides this functionality, I believe. How well does a G4 function as a base station like this? Signal strength, speed, reliability, etc.

    Airport and gNAT

This article should do what you're looking for--note the follow up as it's about PPPoE connections. http://www.macfixit.com/osx/airportbase.shtml A related question: to make a G4 a base station, all one needs is a $99 airport card, right? Does it work well? -Ali

    MySQL Cron job

ps -Uroot | grep 'mysqld' seems to do the trick for seeing if there's a mysqld process running. Not sure about the logical syntax with shell scripting... I've only just recently picked up a book, Linux Shells by Exampe (Ellie Quigley), and so haven't gotten to far... but already I'm able to do...

    More problems

It almost sounds as if the hard drive is failing, especially if you say this problems happens both in OS 9.1 and OS X. Try reinstalling both systems and see if that solves your problem. If it doesn't, try reformatting your HD and then doing a clean reinstall (painful, I know). If that STILL...
