    Sstem Disk Shortcut

The G4s and everything after have built-in support for dual booting at startup time. When you hold down the option key during startup, you get a window for choosing which operating system you want. On the G3s the only choice you have is the startup disk control panel and holding down the option...

    Sstem Disk Shortcut

Did you do a Firmware upgrade before installing OS X? I did that before installing on my BW G3, and OS X boots into 9 on bootup with option down. What you do is hold it down until you hear the chime and the screen starts to show. This is your machine trying to boot into OS X. So, keep holding...

    Thoughts on OS-X/UNIX/and MacOS

Devnul stated: "You are comparing Mac OS X (a desktop operating system) to a BSD system that is a server... This is seriously lfawed from the beginning... Let me try to explain... "BSD is a high-performance server operating system, adding a window manager to it would impact performance...

how do i see how much RAM is being used?

I started off as a Unix newbie on OS X using the "Unix for Dummies" book. You could also try the O'Reilly book dedicated to Csh and Tcsh. I forget the exact name at the moment, something like "Learning Csh and Tsch." I noticed it the other day in a local book store in with other O'Reilly books...

    Thoughts on OS-X/UNIX/and MacOS

I'm surprised people are asking that the Terminal.app be turned off be default. I have never used a CLI before. Well, a long time ago I used DOS for a VERY short time (one day). After installing OS X, I played with it for a week before I discovered the Terminal.app. I opened it. realizing that...

    the html and text editors?

There is an HTML editor that comes with OS X. (In the Utitlities directory, if I remember right.) And yes, it does have a WYSWYG mode. It's a rudimentary HTML editor, but at least it's native. If you know HTML and don't depend that much on the program to create your code, it's plenty good...

    Web Deisgn

In other words, if you're using <div> tags in Omniweb, you'll have trouble. Stick to tables. Most WYSWYG editors (GoLive, Dreamweaver) automatically create layers with <div> tags. You want to create simpler layouts depending only on tables to hold everything together. You can still apply stying...

    Some Unix Knowledge

The default, which is what you get in the Terminal, is tcsh. OS X also has csh, zsh, and I believe also bash.

    Web Deisgn

We're you using Dreamweaver, GoLive or some other WYSIWYG program? They often produce problematic code. If I remember right, OmniWeb does not support CSS fully, so if you layout was depending on CSS, that's your problem. Explorer 5 for the Mac also has buggy CSS support. I've noticed that...

    Apple Talk Network Possible?

I have a G3 and a G4 which I used to network using Apple Talk. Now I have OS X on both and am wondering how to set up something similar. Apple's help is not very clear about what I should do. Anyone have any experience networking two or more OS X based Macs without Appleshare?
