    Adding the iTunes look?

Open up the inspector for the window you want to be metal, and check the "Textured window" checkbox. Voila, instant brushed metal look. It's worth noting this is only available in Jaguar, though.

    Does this Exist

The new iBooks, at least as of the dual USB 500, aren't sleep-swappable. The only system battery is the main battery, so they die between you removing the drained battery and inserting the fresh one. Not enough capacitance or anything to keep it going. There is/was a KB article regarding this...

    Apache default index files?

Apache actually does handle this -- it's handled automatically by mod_dir, which is the same module which handles directory indexes. The problem is that with a default configuration, the automatic rewriting defaults to your Rendezvous name (for example, http://192.168.0.12/~colin is...

    FS: iBook/TiBook power adapter

Watch your inbox for a message from colol@ionet.net. You should have received it yesterday, assuming my mail server didn't eat it.

    FS: Iomega Peerless 20GB HD

For Sale: One Iomega Peerless FireWire portable hard drive system, with 20GB disk. In like-new condition. It's a great little drive -- just plug it in to an open port and go in Mac OS X. Sustained transfer rates of up to 15MB/s. With my latest IDE drive upgrade, I don't need it anymore...

    Where is my RAM going?

You're thinking slightly in the wrong paradigm for Mac OS X. :) Mac OS X is based on a BSD core, which in turn is based on UNIX ideas. One of these ideas is that rather than attempting to allocate RAM as applications request it, we grab a bunch and cache it. This way, RAM is already ready...

    Stupid Question about Jaguar

Also, I was just over at MacSlash, and Apple is apparently soliciting feedback about upgrading to Jaguar. It might be wise to hold off for a bit and see if they instate upgrade pricing, or stick to the full-price purchasing.

Does anyone know about the differences between the Win iPod and the Mac iPod?

There is no "Windows iPod" and "Mac iPod" -- just iPod, as it has been up to this point. The physical hardware is the same. The difference will be how you sync up the iPod. Windows users are stuck with the craptacular MusicMatch software, and Mac users will continue to use iTunes. Also...

    iTunes 3 Framerates

Yep! It's great -- on my iBook 500 which formerly just kind of plodded through visualization, things are much smoother now. Much better framerates. Used to hover around 17-20, now it's routinely at 28-32.

    Stupid Question about Jaguar

They're Proof of Purchase coupons, and nothing more. The idea is that should Apple offer upgrade pricing, you have a method of proving that you owned the previous version. No cash value, no discount, nada. Just "I'm a valid user." That said, if you qualify for higher education pricing...

Main programming question/ a few misc. questions..

Two problems in your code: 1. You terminated your while with a semicolon before it hits the statements to be executed. 2. You need to return 0 (that's a number, not a letter) at the end of main to indicate success. That's why it's "int main(void)", not "void main(void)". main() must...

    Socket HELP!!! (in cocoa)

After messing around with Apple's sockets for a while and feeling it was way too much work, I moved to SmallSockets. Much faster and easier (in my opinion) to work with, and I can't imagine it wouldn't be suitable for your application. SmallSockets is available from...
