What Is The Best Forum Software

Ok, so I'll admit that I'm biased. I am a programmer for phpBB, just so everyone knows. ;) I really think phpBB is great because of the templates along with a nice set of features. I can already say that the feature set for 2.2 will be even nicer. The community is great, it's fun to work...

    eMate, Newton, Palm, oh my!

If you want a Newton, I think Tima Scientific has a few Newton 120s left, and they aren't bad. The Newton 120 doesn't have many features, except all the ones from Tima Scientific have Newton OS 2.0. Ok, that's about all, I will say... Also, Tima sells eMate 300s for $250

Erk DVD region code and 10.1 !!?

Just installed a firmware upgrade, and it worked perfectly. Powerbook G3 400Mhz Firewire. It's fun. Look at http://www.opuscc.com/download/index.shtml for more software. Has a nice selection of firmware upgrades and also software tools. Just check and double-check your firmware version and...

DVD Tricks in X.1 - Post yours here!

Not always. I do it all the time, while my computer (PB G3 Firewire) is in sleep mode. My background doesn't work on that screen until a restart, but it's ok. Yep. Just depends on the encoding method, I think. Simple: insert a differently-coded DVD (or just use software to change it), or...

    Apple newton Links:

Software is the least of my worries: the connection cable is. I have the Keyspan USB->DB9 connector, but my Newton from Tima Digital came with just the stylus, Newton, protector card, an invoice, and the Mac Connection Cable (DIN8). Now to find a way to convert it. I think one of my friends...

    Apple newton Links:

Well, I got it, and I must say it's AWESOME. :D Just want to get it to sync via IR though, all I have is the Mac Mini-DIN8 connector, and I want to use it with a USB->DB9 adapter. :)

    Apple newton Links:

Well, I'm just happy to say that I'm getting a Newton MP120 on Friday, so I'm happy. And, just to top it off, a local TV station aired the episode of the Simpsons that includes the bullies writing "Beat up Martin" on their Newton, turning it into "Eat up Martha" (or something like that) and...

    Can't trash deleted user's folders...

Oh, just so you know, the setfile utility, although good, doesn't do it recursively. So, in other words, I'll have to change the permissions of over 100 files. Thank you, no.

    Can't trash deleted user's folders...

Ok, I've got a similar problem. I have a folder of stuff that I own, but I can't chmod, chown, or most importantly delete it. And yes, I am using rm -r deleteme, chmod -R 777 deleteme, and chown -R dougk:staff deleteme. It still won't let me delete it, even under root!

    setting up FTP server???

can you READ the files? or even write them? But before you actually use any public service, read a little on UNIX security. Also, home directories should be protected.

    Anyone had luck with TV-Out & X.1?

DVD Player in OS X.1 will not work with TV-Out or dual monitors. It's a bug in the player that I think it causes an error with "Your system is not supported". So, in essence, you can't use it until they fix it. As for the rest, can't help with a Radeon.

    setting up FTP server???

Uh, well, it's all done in the UNIX file permissions. But if you're wanting to do anything other than anonymous file access, I recommend SCP, which is not as widely used, but it is more secure. If you want to use SCP, just use the SSH (which is something like "allow remote logins". But if you...

If you can't get the 10.1 upgrade....

Nope, if you open the seal, you aren't bound by the agreement. It's as soon as you install the software. They're just saying you can't sell it to anyone, etc... Also, did you see that little clause "If you disagree with this agreement return it to your local retailer for a full refund." I...

Viewing OS X served pages in Classic on on same machine

Yes: instead of using the loopback device (127.0.0.1), try using the machine's IP address. For example, mine would be 192.168.10.3. You should be able to find what you need in the networking control panel. I have a feeling that this should work, as OS 9 doesn't know what loopback loops back...

    I need to learn Java

Good: learn it. You shouldn't find it too hard... My advice: buy a book. :D
