    Success! - Dual monitors

barenakedAvenger, You had asked davidwb to try to install OS X from scratch with his Voodoo5 already in the computer. I also have a Voodoo 5500 (on a B&W G3), and I had it in my machine when I originally ran the installer. Unfortunately, when the OS X CD tried to boot up for the first time...

Beautiful! My primary OS on a B&W G3!

Eid, You're Voodoo 3 works? That's cool! I have a Voodoo 5500 PCI, and when I first tried to start up OS X it had a kernel panic. Can't say I was surprised, though, since it was made clear by Apple that it would work. I can't wait until they get that working!

Beautiful! My primary OS on a B&W G3!

I haven't yet been brave enough to plug in my USB printer, since the official word is that it won't work. But since I haven't used the thing in months, it's not a big priority for me. I'd love to hear if people have found ways to use USB printers. I'm just overjoyed that my DSL works perfectly!

how do i get out of the unix command top?

Bolindilly, Typing control-c in the Terminal doesn't quit the Terminal, it just quits the process that you're currently running in the Terminal (it quits most things, not all though). So if you've got top running and you control-c, top will quit and you'll have your command prompt back. You...

    Some Unix Knowledge

Eid's right. If you plan to use any Unix much, get used to hitting tab constantly. It's a life-saver! I've got a question for all of you whose Unix knowledge dwarfs my own: Which shell is this that's currently running by default on OS X? Is it tcsh? Are there other shells installed, and if so...

    Attention Command line USers!!!

The root password on mine is the original password that I entered when I first started OS X. However, later I went into the Multiple Users settings and changed my admin's password. This did not change the root password to match. Perhaps this is what's giving some people trouble? If you changed...

Beautiful! My primary OS on a B&W G3!

My only regret is that I had to remove my 3dfx video board first, but I'm sure drivers for that will come along soon. Otherwise, I haven't needed to switch back to OS9 for anything. All of my Classic apps work. And it's super-stable! I love being able to access the Unix command line (although...

Has anyone gotten Realplayer to work?

Whoops, nevermind. I re-installed it and now it works perfectly. False alarm. =o)

Has anyone gotten Realplayer to work?

My experience with RealPlayer has been quite the opposite. It quits unexpectedly whenever I try to start it. What version of RealPlayer are you all using? I downloaded mine just a few weeks back. Very strange.
