I have the same problem now and again - i find just reformatting my ipod does the trick. There are a few tips on the apple website which you could try.

Are we talking online gaming? Really depends what you are into... www.gamebrew.com has some games to kill a half hour or so. If you really want to be a 'no lifer' WoW is great but a bit addictive. And obviously there is the emulation route... I must say Counterstike is great 'BOOM...

There are tonnes of GBA games avalible. I am not sure if it is still around somewhere but CherryROMS used to have a huge selection and it was free to register. If you are specific enough i am sure you could find a rom or two on limewire obviously only if you owned the original game ;)
