Options for making XFree86 useful + some questions

Ok, I've downloaded and built XFree86 (the CVS source code was 292 MB). While downloading, I noticed a *huge* fonts-folder and thought "wow, maybe this is a real estetic system, looking good and all". Imagine my surprise when I launched XDarwin and met twm (the window manager?). I mean, at...

    Ehh....how big is XFree86 - source distribution?

Ahh...that's nice to hear ;) It could have been a 650 MB CD-sized distribution (scary thought to a modem user). Did you get the size-info via a CVS-command or by checking the tree in Finder's Info-palette? I think I'll have to go and study some docs on CVS.... Thanks for the info! /J.M.J.

    Ehh....how big is XFree86 - source distribution?

Hello! I am currently fetching XFree86 using the instructions at http://www.xfree86.org/4.1.0/Darwin.html I did the CVS command to get the source. I should probably be using the binaries, but I tried that a few weeks ago and never got it to work when running the install script. Anyway, I'm...

    Editing the WebServer/Documents directory

I did "ls -l" on the WebServer directory. I learned that there is a difference between <br><br>[localhost:/] username%<br> and <br>[localhost:~] username%<br>:)<br>Anyways, there was a few "w" missing, so I tested with <br><br>chmod a+w Documents<br><br>and first it didn't work at all because...

    Editing the WebServer/Documents directory

I guess that's possible. When I try to save a document in the documents folder from within TextEdit, TE just says "Couldn't save document as /Library/WebServer/Documents/test.html". And when I view the folder called "Documents" in the Finder...sorry, in the Desktop, there is this pen with a...

    Editing the WebServer/Documents directory

PHP is working. Apache is up and running. But Apache automatically locks the Documents directory while the webserver is on. This means I have to turn it off (and reboot too for the change to take effect?) before I can save a file in the Documents directory. And then I have to turn the webserver...

Getting Apache webserver to run on OS X PB

Ok, I followed lucifers's link and downloaded the package that contained an installer. I experienced the Mac-like install and saw the php-info appear when typing localhost/test.php in the browser. Nice that some person had made an installer, cause editing that config file wasn't a very smooth...

Getting Apache webserver to run on OS X PB

Hello! I read that OS X comes with Apache web server. I looked around in the system and found a few files in the "library/webserver" directory. I didn't find any program files, so I went on and opened the manual and began reading on the file...
