    QuickTime Streaming Server ?

QTSS runs fine on plain 'ol OS X-- at least it does on the two OS X systems I've installed it on. Read the enclosed documentation carefully-- it can be a bit of a struggle if you're not familiar with Web stuff and broadcast protocols.

    QuickTime Streaming Server ?

Yes, the (free) QTSS and your FireWire video camera are all you need.

Got new 61.5GB but showed 48.1 GB WHY?

Someone either doesn't know what they're talking about, or the message was confused in translation, as it were... The only other thing I can think of is that you've somehow got the disk partitioned, and one of the partitions is about 48G. Check with Disk Setup...

Got new 61.5GB but showed 48.1 GB WHY?

No flippin' way would it take 11G of space to format a 60G drive! Either his drive really isn't 60G, or it has a boatload of bad sectors. I'd have to check, but I think my 80G Maxtor formatted to 78.something.

    OS X 4L5

A Radeon card makes no difference...I use a non-Radeon Mac at work and a Radeon at home and the graphics speeds in Aqua is pretty much the same.

    Classic destined to fail?

Has anyone gotten Classic to work for more than a few days at a time? I've had OS X 4k78/release installed on three machines for weeks, and it's always the same: Classic initially works perfectly (I have it configured to launch at boot time). After some period of time, Classic no longer works--...

    All Hail SillyBalls!

"Bo3b" is Bob Johnson, at Apple since the early 80s. Well, he was at Apple, then, anyway-- I thought he'd left long ago. The "3" is silent.

    IE 5.5 kills OS X

Well, on the advice of the memory vendor, I've run with the 512M DIMM in slot 1 (my Cube tech notes insist that this makes not one whit of difference) and no other RAM installed. No barfs for 48 hours...

    Mac OS X Questions

I believe the Radeon card, even in PCI, will be a lot faster than what you have now. Maximum PC magazine did a PCI/AGP performance comparison a couple of months back. I believe they were using PCI and AGP Radeon cards. They found only minimal performance differences: apparently most games...

    Mac OS X Questions

You will not be able to use the Voodoo card under OS X until someone writes drivers for it. Given that the manufacturer of the card is dead, I wouldn't hold my breath.

    Rebuilding OS X desktop

OK, here's how to recover from that situation, should you ever find yourself in it. Inside your home folder is a Library folder; inside it is a Preferences folder. Most native OS X apps keep their preferences in "plist" (preferences list?) files, named "com.apple.<app>.plist". These are...

    IE 5.5 kills OS X

Endian, Re your comment that "zoom means adjust the window to best fit the contents" You're right, of course. And that's exactly what OmniWeb does: go to different pages and click the maximize button and it will fit the page to the content. So why do I find this behavior so irritating...

    Rebuilding OS X desktop

OK, I'm not sure that's really what I mean, but... A little background: most OS X applications are "packages"; that is, what seems to be the application icon is really a folder. Inside the folder is the real application and its various resources. I just had another kernal panic with OS X...

Upgrading h/w for OSX - is more MHz better than dual G4s?

While it's true that apps don't need to do anything special to be dispatched to different processors by OS X, it's also true that the programmer can make apps use multiple processors more effectively by "threading" them-- that is, spinning off separate threads of execution. For example, IE...

    IE 5.5 kills OS X

    * No, I'm not running the IE that came with Public Beta-- it was a clean install. * This is the 4k78 that was seeded to developers, not a download. This is why I'm worried...
