How old is your battery? As far as I know, the batteries have a shelf life as well as a cycle count life. Last year, I had something similar -- the count was about 250 or 300, I don't remember the age of the battery. My only solution was to replace the battery... and, I did chase other...

Is it possible that it's the application itself, not just the icon, that resides on the desktop? If this is the case: Drag the Safari from the desktop to the Applications folder (where it should be anyway, in my mind). Then, drag the icon to the dock.

Thx for all your help. Repair permissions didn't resolve the issue. I had AcidSearch 0.7b3 plugin -- it's great, by the way. Removed it and it fixed the problem.
