Add bookmarks to a PDF without Acrobat

I have some scanned documents in which I'd like to insert several bookmarks to make easier their navigation. However, I wouldn't like to spend the money of an Acrobat license just for doing that. Does anybody know if there's a way to do it?

Environment variables and the mac terminal

Sorry, but I have run a test file containing "echo $PATH" and it has worked perfectly both in bash and tcsh. Perhaps some configuration parameter in your shell is creating the problem?

    can't sudo anymore

Just a stupid idea. Have you checked that your bin file is not corrupted? Change your /usr/bin/sudo file by a new fresh one with the right privileges and try again. Maybe it's not the answer but it's woth to try. Good luck.

    rmvb converter

Hi, take a look at http://ffmpegx.com/ They claim that their program is able to read Real Video and convert it in any other video format. Good luck.

    Speed up calculations

Sorry, I've been out for some time. No, it was certainly one of the first things I looked at when I saw the difference in performance. The System Preferences are really well selected. I even turned off any periodic proccess running in the background (such as Entourage or Little Snitch) by...

    Speed up calculations

Sorry for not saying anything before, but I haven't got too much time to enter the forum during these days. Yeah, it's a laptop. Do you think this is relevant?

iMac 266 rev. B hard trouble!

Before going to MacOSX you probably should upgrade your firmware. Take a look to this Apple's address: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117 It's quite strange that you can't boot from your original 8.6 installation CD. I used to have some problems time ago in a 266 G3 that...

    Speed up calculations

Sorry for not saying anything before, but I've been too busy for more than one week. With regard to lurk's comment I have compared the results (for a certain input file) and I get from the Terminal real 0m21.478s user 0m21.010s sys 0m0.090s and using the 'Single User' mode...

    Speed up calculations

I keep on being confused. From the 'Activity Monitor' what I see is that the launched process gets (in average during its execution and without too much dispersion, only 2% of deviation) around 90%CPU. Then, I would expect that the execution time would approach much more that of the 'Single...

Export from Address Book to MS Entourage

You can use a small application called 'Sync Entourage-Address Book'. It can be easily downloaded from VersionTracker or MacUpdate. Good Luck!

    Speed up calculations

I'm only handling several arrays of 10000 real numbers each one, so the memory shouldn't be a problem. In fact, the memory involved is only 2MB of real memory and 30MB of virtual one. I already do my output to a file. Then, I think the only way is to pause somehow other processes in order to...

    Speed up calculations

It's 2GHz But even if I agree that you are never going to get the same speed of the 'Single User' mode, there should be a way to set up the priority of the process so that its speed would approach it.

    Speed up calculations

Hi, I have compiled a Fortran program that does some calculations and I'm not very happy with its speed. I'm running it from the Terminal in a G4 at 550 MHz and the time it takes to run it is more or less the double than what it takes in a Pentium IV. The point is that if I start the...

    mount_smbfs in crontab

Just looking to other scripts that I had prepared using the snmp package, in which I had included the path to find the snmp commands. That's why I felt so stupid, because I made a mistake that I had easily avoided before. In any case, I'd like to write it clearly here in case that it can be...

    mount_smbfs in crontab

Sorry to all. I was soooo stupid I just forgot to establish the PATH environment at the beginning of my script, so it worked from the Terminal (sure) but couldn't find the mount_smbfs location when launched from crontab.
