My guesses are Yyour imac is too slow or too old or you need a bigger partition for OS. Judging by your CPU speed you have a rather old imac. So I think OS 9 is as high as you're gonna get.

Well I bought the thing with no OS but the vendor stated it had 9 on their, not sure if it was 9.1 though. How can I get 9.1 on their? Don't I have to first install OS 9 to be able to install any of the updated versions?

Could Mac OS 8 run on an ibook? Not the older ones, this one is about 500mhz from 2001.

I have a copy of Mac OS X Panther, and I currently have no OS on my ibook. I can't get this install to go through? Is this version just an upgrade and do I need to buy a full setup version some where? If so which one would you recommend?
