    Help with Apache 2 - I am a Newbee

The Personal Web Sharing preference pane is actually a GUI frontend for Apache 1.3.33, the one preinstalled. You'll notice if you manually start it (apachectl start), then the box is checked, and if you manualy stop it (apachectl stop), then the box is unchecked. I'm guessing this is what is...

    Copy Error

Try right-clicking (or ctrl-clicking) the NAS-Backup.apvault file and selecting "Show Package Contents". Just like .app files are really containers, I'm guessing the .apvault file contains numerous other files, one of which is producing the error. However, renaming anything in the container...

Picasa 2 on OSX - A short how to

As a note, Crossover will not let you view movie files since they use windows media player to display. In Parallels this is not a problem.

    Rotate images from the finder?

While, I've got my folder actions setup for Rotate Left and Rotate Right, so thanks again. One thing I should mention is that it has problems dropping files directly into those folders from my camera's memory stick. My workaround is to copy all the images locally and then perform the rotation.

Need some help, buying a new mac

I just popped over to the online Apple Store, and they had an option for US English or Western Spanish keyboard layouts for both the Macbook and Macbook Pro. So, you could probably go into any Apple store and have the order a Macbook with that configuration. It should only take a few days for...

Also want to switch but have questions

I too ran into the issue with external drives, and the main problem is that Microsoft won't officially release the specs for NTFS. However, the solution is to look at it from the Mac perspective. Macdrive will allow you to read Mac formatted drives in Windows. The downsides: - Macdrive...

Windows app to Mac OS X Glue code

Crossover is, indeed, a Wine package. It creates virtual OS environments called bottles (the Wine metaphors never seem to end, hehe). Each bottle contains one or more programs that are contained within. I currently have Windows2k Bottles for SecureCRT and Picasa. They both work except for some...

Any good programs like Picasa for Mac?

bsirons, I agree that opening another application to view video files was a dealbreaker for me to. Picasa will play video files within the program, so that's another point in its favor.

Picasa 2 on OSX - A short how to

One thing that Crossover fails at with Picasa is movie files. This isn't a shortcoming of the program since it uses Wine bottles to virtualize the Windows API, but it is something to take note of. On the other hand, Parallels won't have any problems since it is a fully fledged virtualized...

Picasa 2 on OSX - A short how to

That's a great solution, but the downside is that Crossover is only available for intel Macs. So those of us with PPC Macs are still out of luck.

ACDSee is great on PC. Any like it for Intel Mac

I only occasionally use the ACDSee to browse the filesystem, so it's not a big loss. However, I do like to use recursive slide show to get all the images in a directory plus sub-directories. I haven't found an option in Xee to do this. Do you know of a way?

Losing our Macs to PCs because of $$$$

I agree that the cost of laptops is much higher for Macs, but from several years of experience, Mac laptops have much longer functional lifetimes than. As an example, we have Dell Latitude D620 that typically last 2 years before something dies. However, the Powerbook G4s we have are still...

Losing our Macs to PCs because of $$$$

Speaking of constant upgrades to software, now is not a good time to switch to PC. With Vista on the horizon, you may have more software upgrade headaches than ever before.
