Powerbooks and Portable HD's: Does Firewire have more power than USB?

The key here for me is that I want to be able to use the hard drive at times that I don't have access to a power outlet. If the Firewire connection draws enough power from the laptop, that's the way to go.

Powerbooks and Portable HD's: Does Firewire have more power than USB?

Hey guys - I'm the owner of a small company, and I'm going to start doing a little more traveling. Given that, I'd prefer to pick up a decent external "portable" hard drive (capacity < 50 GB), rather than play musical files when I'm arriving/leaving the office. Originally, I'd purchased a...

    ESPN.com and Tiger

From my blog: Well, in a totally unrelated incident, I looked to expand the range of my wireless range throughout my house. I wasn't getting reception in the garage consistently, so I picked up a range extender (of the Linksys variety). Little did I know that my wireless router is so old...

    ESPN.com and Tiger

Yeah, I've looked at it before...but I can't find anything "conclusive" from it. It's super strange. After 30 seconds, there are some .gifs hanging out, waiting to be loaded..but they'll always load after a few more seconds. The style sheet...

    ESPN.com and Tiger

I've noticed on all three of our OS X machines (all running Tiger) that espn.com loads INCREDIBLY slowly...particularly, the fantasy pages: http://games.espn.go.com/cgi/flb We never had this problem on 10.2 or 10.3, not do we have this problem on Windows machines. Worth note might be that...

Should Our Schools (or Anybody Else) Have Macs or PCs?

I realize that Apple offers machines under $1000, but those machines would hardly be considered "smoking," as I mentioned earlier. I myself have an eMac, and to get close to state of the art, the out-the-door cost was much closer to $2k, than $1k. As far as licensing is concerned, I agree...

Should Our Schools (or Anybody Else) Have Macs or PCs?

I was anti-Mac for years, and it all started back in the days of DOS. I always appreciated that copmarison between operating systems and airport terminals (Mac Airlines just guided you down a corridor, not telling you where you were going, or why, while MS had an elaborate series of corridors...

    Everquest for MacOS X

What we dislike is not the GAME, but other people's inability to exhibit a certain amount of self-control. Beer isn't a bad thing; alcoholism, however, is a shame. The case is solid. Anyone who's got a handle on their life, and knows what their priorities are, should give the game a whirl...

    Everquest for MacOS X

I was an Everquest player on PC for quite a while. Fortunately, I never got "sucked in," as a lot of my pals did. Granted, the game rocks. It's the coolest game I've ever played. I was a Lord in a new guild, and had the coolest, hippest, most badass gnomish enchanter. But, I ran out of time...

    Networking Without DAVE

I'm running OSX 10.1.3, and was previously using the DAVE evaluation for setting up a network drive of my Win2000 machine. This was working just fine (I was manually connecting via the smb://xxx.xx.xx.xxx option in the server box), until my DAVE evaluation expired. Now, my DAVE installation...
