    low system memory warning

Hi Evildan, I DID get suspuscious of my last photo, Denali (my dog) since that was the one that triggered the message. (This is NOT happening now, however.) The message was: "The program could not property load the photo due to low system memory." When I kept seeing "the program" I figured...

    low system memory warning

Hi Arden, Thanks for your note. I also kept going to the page and testing it and it loaded fine without that message popping up at all eventually. I still want to get the widget to test the ram. Thanks again to you and everyone who offered things to try. If I get any new insight into what...

Sorry, but I'm not sure how to find this information out. Do I look under the "About this Mac"?? Thanks.

    low system memory warning

I wouldn't think so since my account allows for uploading 100 MB of photos and I'm only using 6 MB. Interesting thought though.

    low system memory warning

I was just mentioning the burning of the CDs because that's when this "trouble" started. I uploaded my photos to pbase.com and they're there just fine. I suspect the problem is with IE and trying to view the gallery using Safari would be a good way to check that out. Thanks! peg

    low system memory warning

I'll have to try to get Safari back....I've not used it for a while. For the message says "This program can't use load the image because of low memory" so it must be an IE problem??? Thanks for the info about the widgets. I will definitely check that out. Peg

    low system memory warning

Thanks, Zammy-Sam. Is Widgets the name of the software? I'm not familiar with that. I saw some software called cache cleaner for IE. I wonder if that would be a good thing to run?? Again, I'm only seeing this message when I visit my photo gallery page and it is unable to load up and show me the...

    low system memory warning

Thanks, Arden. I'm not sure how to do this search. I used the search box and typed in cache files and nothing came up. Could you tell me how to locate these? I think this could be it. While I was burning CDs and transferring to my Lacie hard drive, I got the spinning beach ball a couple...

    low system memory warning

hello, I'm on a G4 PowerBook running OS 10.2.6. I've been using PS7 and working with photos and have just cleared all my photos off the harddrive by burning CDs. (I know they were consuming a lot of memory.) Now, when I visit my pbase.com/bearpaw account to view my photo galleries, I get a...

CD burner won't work in Help! G4 Powerbook drive problems

Hi Arden, I don't know the answer to your question on Open Firmware. Repairing the disk and repairing permissions from the CD is what she recommended in the way of repairs. This was my first step into firmware repair. Sorry I can't tell you more. peg

CD burner won't work in Help! G4 Powerbook drive problems

Yes, the drive is working again. She said somehow the firmware got corrupted and the procedure we did helped get it working optimally. I forgot to mention before doing that restart with the 4 fingers, you need to shut down the computer and then restart it with that technique. The drive...

CD burner won't work in Help! G4 Powerbook drive problems

Thank you for your help. I finally gave Apple a call and she walked me through the process. There's no hole anymore and all the standard ways didn't work. Here's what made it eject: Hold down the Apple key, Option, key, and F. Then hit the Power button and immediately hold down the O...

CD burner won't work in Help! G4 Powerbook drive problems

I just slipped in a CD and it won't mount. The Drive doesn't appear to be working at all. I tried all the tricks for getting the CD to eject and nothing works. Is there a manual process that I can use to get it out? That's my first wish: To retrieve the CD. Secondly, I think I have a problem...

how to repair permissions once you start upgrading

Hulkaros, That's answers it. I was thinking if one is downloading upgrades online how in the heck would you ever get a hold of a disk to do the repair. I will definitely check out that software you mentioned. "As for the 10.2.6 Combo Update it should be better if you uninstall/disable...

thanks. I tried it tonight and all went well. But, my original question was what CD do I use? If one keeps upgrading the versions, it doesn't seem logical to use the CD from an earlier version?? Peg

    tried it successfully

I see the folder and Disk Utility on the computer but I thought I needed to boot from the CD to do the repair. Not true? Or, if it's able to do the job it'll do it but if there's a problem repairing the permissions, I'd need to boot from a CD?? Thanks Peg:)

how to repair permissions once you start upgrading

Hello, I've been doing several version upgrades from the original OS 10.2.1 that came with my G4. I used the start-up CD to boot the Mac and repair permissions just fine when I first had the computer. But is this the same CD I use even though I've jumped up several versions? I'm about to...
