    Removing something from menu bar

Somebody probably clicked on "Script Menu.menu" in the AppleScript folder. As Pengu said, command-drag it off of your menu bar. -- Steve

    Changing Desktop Icons.

A subtle but important distinction. I think, however, that my term "original icon" is synonymous with your use of "default icon." :p I never used the term "previous." :D -- Steve

    Changing Desktop Icons.

You don't need to "keep" the old icons; just Clear or Cut (command-x) your custom icon from the file's Get Info window, and the original icon will reappear. :) Although sometimes you have to log out and back in to see your changes. -- Steve

Adobe Acrobat auto launching -- How to stop it

Here's the solution (I hope ;) ): 1. Open Fetch 2. Select "Post-processing..." from the "Customize" menu. 3. Find the File Type "Portable Document Format" -- click once on it -- and click "Disable." That way it sticks around in case you ever want it back. 4. Click "OK" 'Hope that helps...

    iTunes, album art:

This isn't as convenient a solution as what you are probably looking for, but it's fast: 1. If it's not already showing, select Edit->Show Artwork (or command-G) to show the Artwork imagewell. 2. Select the song that has the desired artwork. 3. Drag-copy the artwork for the selected song to...

    RealBasic codeing help

Well, most programmers will tell you to eschew the goto command entirely. If you're certain that what you want to do can't be done any other way, goto can be checked out in REALbasic's online reference (command-1) by searching for goto It will tell you this: If checkbox1.value then...

    Dialog box navigation

I think jstonemo is talking about dialog boxes, and so of course is discussing column view. I, too, was discouraged with the inability to use keyboard equivalents in OS X's dialogs. Fortunately, Default Folder (St. Clair Software) adds back that functionality. Check it out! :) -- Steve

    Virtual PC 6 abilities

And don't forget that Micro$oft acquired VirtualPC. Some say they have the resources to really speed up VPC; others predict that they will kill the product.

    Can't Open Mail

I recently had a very similar experience with Mail.app. Restarts, reinstalls of Mail.app did not help. Oddly enough, the solution for me was to go into the Network Preference Pane, and create a new Location that only enabled my modem (I usually connect via Ethernet). I then restarted, and...

    Problems restarting in OS 9

I agree that DiskWarrior can be indispensable in cases such as this. It's available as a downloadable purchase from Alsoft. I also will second the warning about Norton Disk Doctor. Beware of this utility. -- Steve

    Login screen hanging!!!!

As a starting point, I would recommend starting up in single user mode and checking the disk for errors. Restart, then hold down the command (apple) key and the "S" key to boot into single user mode. You can release the keys when you see text messages appear on the screen. When the...

USB Floppy Drive in OS X

Yes, that's a very common issue. We, too, have to plug in our Imation Superdisk/Floppy Disk drive after inserting the first disk in order to get it to mount. Subsequent disks work fine, until the drive sits idle for an hour or two, then the unplug/replug dance ensues. Not a super big deal...

    stop iphoto from automatically launching?

The preference to launch iPhoto is not within the iPhoto app, it's in the Image Capture application. Open Image Capture, select Preferences, and change your setting there. 'Hope that helps! :) -- Steve
