Mac mini - Didn't feel the love..

Nice to hear a true UNIX guy enjoying the Mac GUI - it is after all a major selling point... And yes, 256Mb RAM is too little - it should be more by standard. Enjoy!

    Apple vs. Windows

All of this just shows the real difficulty in deciding to stick/switch/add... You 'stick' if you're nervous/can't be bothered/arsed to think about the long term cost etc. You 'switch' if you're not afraid of the 'dark' / feel reasonably technically competent (not that a Mac really requires it...

How many Mac's have you had in your lifetime? (Home only + parent's machines)

Server - home use? Probably not... unless you enjoy the technology... Some do you know :-) As for me it's safe way of replicating what I have at work and I can break it to my hearts content; 'cos they don't get the importance of being able to 'learn' away from a live system.

Finding out speed of HD? (ie. RPM)

Ahh - well done Zammy-Sam! Serves me right for hiding the page for a hour and not refreshing it before posting my reply! Nice to know we agree!

Finding out speed of HD? (ie. RPM)

Requires a little research, but if you go to System Profiler and expand out the ATA menu (my mac is ATA - yours may be SCSI of course) and click on the HD - it'll tell you the model number. Searching the Manufacturers website should reveal all the technical details. HTH

    updates and slipstreaming

If 'slipstreaming' means magically updating your original install CDs - then no - not to my knowledge. However, there are ways to prevent all those updates -every time you reinstall... and no, I don't know them all; but it breaks down into these parts: Apple Applications Apple endorsed Java...

How to open and play this on mac

.aas is listed on www.file-ext.com as: AAS = Authorware Shocked packet AAS = Mime: application/x-authorware-seg AAS = Movie Clip; Autodesk Animation Setup; used by Compton's Reference Collection I've never heard of it, but it would seem to be a file used to make something else - ie. not...

    auto log out how to.

Security tab of Systems Preferences (in Apps folder) does what you need. Note: If an app has a file open that it needs saving - it'll wait for confirmation and therefore cancel logout to protect your data. HTH

Transferring data from Windows PC to Powerbook G4

I've always thought that Network card to Network card required a crossover cable - but I could be wrong... I'd agree it's probably easier to mount the PC on the Mac via SMB://<ip address of PC>/<share name> rather than the other way round - (don't forget to share the folder or drive in XP with...

    change iTunes library location

Make sure the user has read/write permissions on the drive! You should be able to move the original folder and relink (ensure iTunes is closed), but prepare for drag/drop the library again.

    PowerBooks threaten male fertility?

(I'm no guru here - so 'cuse the probable misuse of terms, but...) I heard tell that the male DNA is degrading - to the point that 'we'll' (read males) be extinct within 150,000 years... :( I have also done my bit for the species and (luv 'em dearly) but I won't want to deliberately do it...

    Panther - Finder caching/NTP error?

I've seen it with my own eyes. Finder Fresher does indeed reload the cache of icons in a directory - the constant visual 'fluttering' proves that... but this refresh bears no relation to any date/time problems - it purely showing you 'pictures' of what is available - you'll still get the 'newer'...

    Panther - Finder caching/NTP error?

Thanks for the reply. If they are out, it's by milliseconds (I've had screens side by side). I was speaking to my colleague and his response was "how ON EARTH can the serverside file be 'newer'? Some of these files haven't been worked on in months - some years!"

    Panther - Finder caching/NTP error?

Greetings all - hope there's some nuggets put there for me - I'm approaching the end of the road on this one. (2x 10.3.6 Servers and 25x 10.3.6 Clients) I have a situation where a client will copy a file from the server, work on it and then copy it back... normal stuff. However, (randomly it...

Disk Warrior Fails to Start Up 2.0GHZ G5

It's an annoyance for sure. Diskwarrior has saved professional 'lives' and therefore you could argue a few quid is well worthwhile... All I can say is that BootCD works (it took me a hour odd) and it saves some cash/aggrevation... BTW: my original Diskwarrior CD wouldn't boot my G4 PB - the G5...
