i hade this with an iBook. in the end (after trying all the stuff you have tried) i realised it was the harddrive that was broken. if you have any chance lending an external harddrive from a friend or work, you should try that.

if you are getting tiger, maybe you should wait a while. it is possible it will stop working.

as i understand it it is a wbpage withou the need of a browser and priviliges to interact with the user library.

if i remember correctly: just insert the install cd/dvd, and, in the menu, opent disk tools. the rest is obvious. Good luck! but maybe the fault is with the connection to the server so it freezes when it tries to establish a contact.

how about insurance? my girlfriend has an "clumsy-insurance", so she can brake nearly everything doing clumsy stuff like dropping it or spill alcohol all over it :) have you checked your insurance (if you have any) to see if it will cover the damage?
